CIHL Researchers Present Findings of Unit Dose Study to Pharmacy Leaders
CIHL researchers Russell D. Meller and Jen Pazour recently returned from unSUMMIT 2009, the leading event for pharmacy leaders implementing barcoding practices at our nation's hospitals. Dr. Meller was joined in his presentation by Bill Churchill, Executive Director of Pharmacy for Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston and Jim Martin, President of Shamrock Medical Solutions Group, a leading third-party pharmaceutical repackager with operations in Columbus, Ohio and Boston. Their presentation, "Partnering with a Third-Party Repackager for Unit Dose Medication Acquisition," advocated for pharmacy directors to consider the third-party option for repackaging medications to increase patient safety. According to the Director of Pharmacy at a leading hospital system in the country, "the presentation was one of the best at the unSUMMIT." Copies of the associated white paper (with additional co-authors, Drs. Scott Mason and Sarah Root, and Lisa Thomas) were sent upon request to many unSUMMIT participants and is being distributed via the websites of Shamrock and Safecor, another industry repackager. The CIHL research team hopes their research will be instrumental in affecting the change that improves patient safety.
The white paper can be found here.
